The word Patagonia conjures up images of rugged wind swept landscapes with jagged granite spires piercing up through vast glaciers. All these visions exist, but there is more, much more to the region

During the 2000 and 2001 climbing season, I spent over 14 weeks exploring Los Glaciares National Park in Argentina. In the end, I succeeded in climbing several of the rock spires of the Fitzroy Massif.

My presentation covers these climbs, but also explores other aspects of the area. The natural history of this land is overpowering and humbling at the same time. The flora and fauna I observed in this harsh environment are striking and unique. The human history of El Chalten is no less intriguing. From the climbers and tourists who come from all over the world, to the shop keepers and the Gouchos or cowboys who call this place home, there is a sense of community and unbridled human spirit.
